The 23-year-old German poker player Jens Lakemeier climbed on top of the players field of the 2017 WSOP $2,500 Big Bet Mixed tournament, winning his first World Series of Poker gold bracelet. His victory comes as a proof of the recent success for German poker player in international poker tournaments.
In order to come on top of the tournament’s ranking, Jens Lakemeier outlasted a field of a total of 179 entrants and took home not only the event’s title, but also his first gold bracelet and a guaranteed prize pool cash portion estimated to $112,232.
The victory helped Lakemeier boost his overall live earnings to $875,593. His best live cash so far amounts to $132,097 which he won in July 2016, after ranking at the second place of the €2,700 NLHE – Poker EM Velden. However, the victory in the 2017 WSOP $2,500 Big Bet Mixed brought him his best cash in his World Series of Poker career as well as his second final table. The first WSOP final table reached by the young German was the one of the 2015 WSOP Europe $2,200 8-Game event.
In spite of the fact that Jens Lakemerier is only 23 years old, he has proved his qualities while playing different types of poker games throughout his career so far. The German has managed to finish in the money in various No-Limit Hold’em, 8-game, Omaha Hi-Lo, Dealers Choice, H.O.R.S.E and mixed events.
The 2015 WSOP Europe $2,200 8-Game tournament was a brand new event for the Series, consisting of games in the no-limit or pot-limit formats games. The inaugural mixed event saw a number of variations of the poker game take place, including pot-limit Omaha, pot-limit Omaha hi-lo, no-limit Hold’em, Big O, no-limit 2-7 single draw, no-limit five card draw, etc.
Only six players returned for the final table of the event. At this time, it was exactly Jens Lakemeier who held the chip lead, and the first player of the last six who got eliminated. A few hours later, there were still five players around the final table, with Ashton Griffin becoming the next in line to leave it. Then, the rest of the players got eliminated one by one, until there were only two of them standing. Lakemeier and Stockfish faced each other in a heads-up battle, with a massive 7-to-1 chip lead for Lakemeier at the time. Having this in mind, it was not hard for the young German to defeat his last standing opponent and conquer the title of the 2017 WSOP $2,500 Big Bet Mixed tournament.
With Jens Lakemeier on top of the ranking, scooping a monetary prize amounting to $112,232, Jason Stockfish remained on the runner-up position. He received a total of $69,359 for his efforts. The third place in the ranking was occupied by Andrew Kelsall, for a guaranteed prize pool portion of $47,239.
Jerry Wong remained at the fourth position, followed by Ashton Griffin who took the fifth place. Kenneth Fitzgerald remained at the sixth, and last, place in the final table ranking. He was granted with $16,793 for his efforts.
